Clinician Recognition Plan

The Clinician Recognition Plan allows us to take a step in recognizing primary care physicians and other clinicians whose practices exemplify those characteristics that we want to encourage among providers throughout our network. These characteristics include adherence to evidence-based medicine, which is the basis for our clinical quality measurements, and efficient use of health care resources, which we call cost efficiency.

The recognition plan is a first step toward linking clinical quality and cost efficiency to reimbursement. We have begun with primary care because this is the area in which sufficient standards for measuring adherence to evidence-based medicines have been established. We are working with our vendor partner, Health Benchmarks Inc., and community physicians to expand the quality measures to other specialties.

As a leading health plan in our community, we believe we need to improve how health care is being delivered. As employers continue to migrate towards benefit plans that transfer more financial responsibility to the member at the point of service, there is a growing demand for more robust information regarding cost and quality.
