Determining effective date of coverage
The probationary period for new hires begins on their date of hire. Coverage becomes effective on the first day of the month following the hire date and upon satisfaction of any probationary periods required by the employer.
For example: If an employee’s first day is April 15 and the group has a 30-day probationary period, the employee is eligible for enrollment on June 1. The 30-day probationary period ends May 15 and the effective date is the first day of the following month—June 1.
