The holiday season is also our industry's busiest time of the year. This year is especially challenging given the pace of changes related to health care reform. In keeping with the spirit of the season and in recognition of these unique demands, it's important to pause and give thanks. I'd also like to use this opportunity to reflect on our purpose here at Regence.

On behalf of the Regence Sales team, I want to extend my gratitude to you and your staff for your partnership throughout the year in sales and service to employers and members. I'm also thankful for the team here at Regence and to the family and friends who keep us focused on the important things in life.

In demanding times, clarity of purpose can provide helpful perspective on actions and decision-making. Our role here at Regence is to:

  1. Provide financial protection to support our community of members in their time of need
  2. Offer affordable access to health care services
  3. Provide powerful tools for members to take ownership of their health
To fulfill our responsibility, we sometimes need to make difficult decisions that may be questioned when viewed through a single lens. Part of our challenge is to balance multiple needs in order to protect the well-being of our members. That's why we remain committed to a broader view—one that reflects our promise of security and well-being for our more than one million members in Washington state.

I feel fortunate to work in an industry that emphasizes these values. I wish you and yours good health, prosperity, and much happiness this holiday season and in the coming new year.
