Mental Health Parity Act brings benefit changes to small groups
The final phase of the state Mental Health Parity Act (EHB1460) impacts renewals and new sales for groups of 2 to 50 with effective dates of July 1, 2010 and later.
Changes to groups of 51+ stemming from the federal Mental Health Parity Act became effective on October 15, 2009. The Act requires that group health carriers apply to mental health benefits the same treatment and financial limits that are applied to medical and surgical benefits.
To comply with the law, we have removed inpatient and outpatient visit limits from the mental health disorder benefit for all groups 2 to 50.
