Domestic Partnership Law to be put to public vote
Last month we let you know that 5688, The 2009 Domestic Partnership Law was on hold pending Referendum 71.
The Secretary of State's Office has announced that the sponsors of Referendum 71 have enough valid signatures to put this bill to a public vote on the November ballot. The new law, which expands the rights and responsibilities for health carriers to incorporate domestic partner coverage into their benefit plans, was supposed to take effect on July 26, but was delayed until the signature count was complete. Now the law will not take effect unless it is approved in the Nov. 3 election.
