Medigap Plan A- Disabled closed
Effective April 1, 2009, Regence BlueShield will no longer accept new enrollment for Medigap Plan A– Disabled coverage. Current membership will not be impacted by this change. If you have a client enrolled in Regence Medigap Plan A– Disabled, they will not need to make any changes, and their coverage will continue as usual.
Keep in mind that many disabled Medicare–eligible individuals find a Medicare Advantage plan to be a viable and affordable option. If you are helping a disabled beneficiary select a plan, the following alternatives may be available after April 1:
- Regence MedAdvantage offers comprehensive coverage without the underwriting typically associated with a traditional Medigap plan.
- Per SHIBA, three local competitors continue to offer Plan A– Disabled—Bankers Fidelity Life, Oxford Life and Premera.
- The Washington State High Risk Pool (WSHIP) program may be available to certain disabled applicants with pre–existing conditions. For more information please visit the WSHIP Web site.
Regence is committed to our Medicare members and will continue to provide you with the resources needed to assist your clients in choosing a health plan most suited for their needs.
We will accept applications for Medigap Plan A– Disabled until close of business on March 31, 2009. Applications received at any Regence office location prior to close of business on March 31 will be processed as usual.
If you have any questions, please talk to your Regence Sales contact or contact Individual Marketing at 1–888–REGENCE (734–3623).
