2009 Medicare deductible and coinsurance changes mailed to Medigap members
The federal government annually reviews the Medicare program and revises deductibles for Parts A and B, as well as for inpatient and skilled nursing facility coinsurance amounts. The outcome of this year's review is a mandated 4.3% increase to the Part A deductible and coinsurance levels. The Part B deductible did not change. It will remain at the current $135. There are no changes in benefit design for Medigap plans.
Later this month we will mail to Medigap members letter explaining the outcome of this year's review and notify them of the 2009 premium increase. The letters vary slightly, depending upon the individual plans. We expect that our members might experience longer-than-normal call hold times; in an attempt to accommodate the high volume of calls, our customer service area will staff accordingly.
