01/21/2008   Suspicious caller targets Regence members

Protecting our members' privacy is of great importance to us, but at times we can fall victim to fraudulent activities. Recently we learned that some of our members received fraudulent phone calls from an individual claiming to be from Regence.

Regence is committed to protecting our members' privacy and has taken steps to try to resolve this matter as quickly as possible, including notifying law enforcement authorities.

If you receive inquiries from your clients, please assure them that we do not call members to request personal or financial information in a “cold call” style. Regence only calls members if they elected to deduct their premium from their bank account and we require information to complete their application. In this case, the interaction would have been initiated by the member.

Our recent news alert—including tips for protection against health care fraud and abuse will provide you and your clients with more information. Members can visit www.regence.com to learn what steps they can take to protect themselves.

If you have questions, please talk to your Regence Sales contact.
