Wellness includes good dental health, too.
At Regence, we're focusing on helping our members achieve overall health and wellness. And we're not overlooking the importance of good dental health on the body's total wellness. That's why, along with our new medical products, we've also introduced new dental products— EncoreSM, ExpressionsSM and RadianceSM.
In 1998, the dental community launched a campaign to tell the public how infections in the mouth can impact other parts of the body. While more research is still needed, we do know, for example, that people with periodontal disease are at higher risk for other illnesses. After all, periodontal disease is a bacterial infection, and when bacteria enter the blood stream, it can infect major organs and begin new infections. Research suggests that periodontal infections may:
- Contribute to the development of heart disease, the nation's leading cause of death
- Increase the risk of stroke
- Increase a woman's risk of having a preterm, low birth weight baby
- Pose a serious threat to people whose health is compromised by diabetes, respiratory diseases, or osteoporosis
Periodontal disease is connected to gingivitis and cavities-and all are conditions that can be prevented with good dental care, which includes regular brushing, professional cleanings, and regular check-ups.
Enter Encore, one of our new group dental products.
Encore provides coverage for preventive and basic services, ensuring that members have access to the care they need to keep their mouths healthy. It's a perfect complement to Innova or Engage, but can also be purchased as a stand-alone plan. Employers can choose from among three deductible options and two annual maximums.
